The Importance of Vitamin D

While we are abundant in nature, good coffee, and micro-breweries, one thing we lack here in the Pacific Northwest is Vitamin D (aka sunlight)!!

Around 80%of people are deficient in Vitamin D which is unfortunate because it is a powerhouse nutrient that’s a crucial part of so many bodily functions—think reproductive health, mental health, bone health, and even the strength of your immune system.

Every person’s body and nutritional requirements differ, which is why your vitamin D needs to change based on age and body size. In short, nutrition professionals recommend upping your intake of vitamin D-rich foods and getting up to 30 minutes of sun exposure daily to help your body synthesize vitamin D.

Now that the sun is out it’s important to get out there and soak it up, but don’t forget your sunscreen! In addition to basking in the sun, here are a few foods rich in Vitamin D you should start incorporating more into your diet:

  1. Eggs
  2. Salmon
  3. Tuna
  4. Mushrooms
