From a Cocktail Napkin to Millions of Meals: Farm to Fit Turns 15!

A note from our founders, Dré and G. Scott
Fifteen years. It’s a little hard for us to believe.
On New Year’s Eve in 2010, we were sitting at a bar on Hawthorne, scribbling ideas on a cocktail napkin about what we wanted to do with our lives. We had moved to Portland, were working jobs we weren’t particularly passionate about, and wanted to create something of our own.
At the same time, we were searching for something pretty simple: fresh, healthy, delicious meals made with local ingredients and delivered to our door. In a city with some of the most incredible farms and food in the country, we couldn’t believe that service didn’t exist.
So, like two slightly naive entrepreneurs, we decided to create it ourselves.
And in November 2011, Farm to Fit was born.
What a Ride It’s Been
We started with one chef in a shared commercial kitchen in North Portland, doing just about everything ourselves. Within the first few years, we’d already moved kitchens three times. Eventually, we bought an old Volvo parts warehouse and turned it into the commercial kitchen that Farm to Fit calls home today.
There have been countless early mornings, late nights, big decisions, small victories, and more than a few moments when we’ve wondered what on earth we got ourselves into.
But somewhere along the way, Farm to Fit became much more than the little idea we dreamed up that night.
It became a community.
1.7 Million Meals. And So Much More.
Over the past 15 years, we’ve prepared and delivered about 1.7 million meals (yes, we counted!)
Even to us, that number is astonishing.
But what makes us most proud isn’t really the number. It’s what those meals represent.
It’s the busy parent who gets a little more time with their kids. The person working toward a healthier lifestyle. The customer recovering from an illness who doesn’t have to think about what’s for dinner. The families, professionals, retirees, and countless others who have welcomed our food into their homes.
When we started Farm to Fit, we wanted to make healthy eating easier. Fifteen years later, we’re reminded that what we’ve really been giving people is a little more time and a little less stress in their day.
And that’s pretty remarkable.
The People Who Made It Possible
If we’ve learned anything over these 15 years, it’s that you don’t build something like this alone.
We’ve had the privilege of working alongside some extraordinary people. Talented chefs, hardworking kitchen and packaging teams, dedicated delivery drivers, incredible local farmers and vendors, and people who have cared about this business as though it were their own.
Some have been with us for years. Others have moved on to new adventures. All of them have left their mark on Farm to Fit.
And then there are our customers.
Some of you have been ordering since our earliest days. You’ve watched our menus evolve, tried hundreds of recipes, shared your feedback, and recommended us to friends and family.
You’ve trusted us with something surprisingly personal: feeding yourselves and the people you love. That trust has never been lost on us.
Fifteen Years Later
Portland has changed. The food industry has changed. And we’ve certainly changed.
We’ve navigated economic ups and downs, a global pandemic, growing pains, and all the unpredictable adventures that come with running a small business.
But the things that mattered to us in 2011 still matter today: good food, fresh ingredients, supporting our local community, treating people well, and making life just a little easier.
Fifteen years ago, we had an idea, a cocktail napkin, and absolutely no way of knowing where it would take us.
Today, we have 15 years of memories, 1.7 million meals behind us, and an incredible amount of gratitude for everyone who has been part of this journey.
To our customers, our team, our partners, and the Portland community that gave us our start: thank you.
You’ve made these 15 years something we could never have imagined.
With love and gratitude,
Dré & G. Scott

P.S. We couldn’t celebrate our 15th birthday without a little something special from the kitchen! We’re bringing back one of our original recipes, our Meatball Sub, for a special one-time appearance on the November 15 delivery. A little taste of where it all began!
